Efficacy of individualized homeopathic treatment in the management of Dermatophytosis- A Case Series

The ‘Skin’ has its’ own cosmetic values other than normal physiological functions. Dermatophytosis is a superficial skin infection causing annular itchy lesions on the superficial skin surface. A steady escalation in the burden of fungal disease has emerged in the form of an epidemic in India. Lack of awareness among the common people subjugated with poor hygiene, low socioeconomic status, humid weather conditions of the tropics, and subtropics contributes to worsening the present scenario. Lack of research in mycology and misuse of the combination of steroid and anti-fungal has led to an uncontrolled outbreak of the disease with diverse clinical symptoms in different age groups. This case series shows 5 different cases of Dermatophytosis treated in the Outpatient departments. 3 out of 5 cases were less responsive to the conventional anti-fungal ointments which lead the patient to opt for Homoeopathy. All 5 cases recovered with individualised homoeopathic treatment without any further complications. The situation demands a well thought alternative treatment option that can reduce the disease burden and the financial burden. This evidence gives a positive direction for the application of homeopathy alone and seems to open a door for add-on therapies along with conventional treatments in the future

Eczematous Lesion of Nipple and Areola Treated with Individualised Homoeopathic Treatment

Breast and nipple–areolar complex has its own functional, sexual and cosmetic values. The skin around nipple and areola is prone to develop several kinds of infections during different stages of life ranging from mild-to-moderate dermatitis to neoplastic growths. Lack of knowledge of the patients about breast hygiene and the spectrum of the breast diseases among medical practitioners renders prompt diagnosis; hence, it develops several complications from its own array. Apparently, an uncommon presen- tation of dermatitis sometimes causes several complications at different stages of life and mostly during the period of lactation where the newborn suffers as a consequence of mother’s illness. In this case, a female patient approached our outpatient depart- ment with complaints of itching and burning of nipple and areola with occasional discharge, which was diagnosed as eczema of nipple and areola after clinical examina- tion. Initially, we started our treatment with Sulphur 30 and from then patient showed gradual improvement. Within a period of 1 month, patient showed promising improvement and it took 2 more months to subside other residual complaints. This case report not only portrays effectiveness of individualised homeopathy but also focuses on the cost-effectiveness of homeopathic treatments.

CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019 AND MUCORMYCOSIS A GLOBAL THREAT: A SYSTEMIC REVIEW

The pandemic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread vastly on a global scale. There is no definitive treatment of the disease till now. However, prevention and symptomatic management is the prime choice. The incidence rate of mucormycosis globally is 0.005–1.7 per million. In Indian population, its prevalence is 0.14 per 1000, which is about 80% higher than other developed countries. The fatality rate of mucormycosis is 46% worldwide. Mucormycosis is also known as Zygomycosis and now it’s called black fungus disease.
